Turn your in-room television to a revenue generator with info TV

With the constant battle to keep your guest informed of your hotels extra services, one area that can help in marketing these services is the in-room Televisions. If you are a hotel operator that wants to keep it simple for your guests and your hotel staff, then historically video on demand systems will not have been on your wish list probably because of the complicated interfaces and limitations. Forbes Hotel TV can now offer 'infoTV', a hotel information channel which will keep your guest informed of your current offers as well as additional content such as the latest news and traffic information.

Kevin Herring explains how this marketing and information tool works;

"By using a specialist software package and a PC that is connected to the aerial distribution headend, the PC signal will convert to a digital feed and then on to a specific channel. Then, by installing a professional hotel specified television, for example the Philips hotel range, there is, as part of its functionality, a mode, to set a specific switch-on channel from stand by. This will enable the in-room television to display the clients dedicated hotel branded channel with their offers and information, each and every time the television is switched on. The key advantage of this system is that is fully bespoke to the client. They will have the ability to display fully branded pages, and can have any information they wish from BBC news feeds, to local traffic news, if there is an RSS feed we can place it on the channel.

It is also fully scalable, if they are a multi-site operator then the advantages offered are excellent, their central marketing department will have control of the layout and can display appropriate offers on their bespoke channel for each hotel. Campaigns or offers can then be updated daily or weekly, locally or nationwide.

Additional revenue streams can also be created by charging local businesses to advertise on your channel, for example a taxi firm or local restaurant."
